Meet Our Team
The people behind 49 Native Design
Aster brings over 20 years of beading experience and a lifelong connection to their Métis and Dene heritage to their role at 49 Native Design. As Store Manager, no two days are the same — from planning fashion shows to fitting new pieces and taking custom orders. Their deep knowledge of Indigenous craft and their eye for detail make them an anchor for the team and every customer they serve.
"It reminds me of my culture and reminds me that for as long as we could, women have wanted to feel beautiful in something they made."
— Aster, on wearing a ribbon skirt
Sage keeps the engine running behind the scenes at 49 Native Design. From fulfilling online orders and managing inventory to working directly with consignment artists to bring local talent into the store, Sage ensures every item reaches customers with care and precision. His appreciation for art as a form of cultural expression shapes how he approaches every part of his work.
"Being able to say we're 'Indigenous-owned' is a statement that affirms our rights, and it's something we should take pride in sharing."
— Sage, on what Indigenous-owned means
Julia brings warmth, consistency, and a strong cultural foundation to her work at 49 Native Design. Raised with teachings from her mother and kokum — including mossbag making, sewing, and ribbon skirt construction — she carries those traditions proudly into her daily role and is committed to growing with the team every day.
"The ribbon skirt is something that should be respected as it can represent anybody's identity, resilience and pride."
— Julia, on what a ribbon skirt means
